Prescription and Refill Policy

  • Medication refills are handled in our office only during business hours (Monday through Thursday 8:00am – 4:30pm and Friday 8:00am – 1:30pm).  No prescriptions will be filled after hours, during weekend or holiday hours.

  • Patients bear the responsibility to notify the office in a timely manner for refills.  Refills may take up to 3 business days for approval.  Therefore we ask patients to contact the office prior to running out of medication.

  • Controlled substances will not be refilled after hours or on weekends and require a minimum of 3 days notice.

  • Refills will only be authorized for medications prescribed by Rheumatology Associates’ providers.

  • Some medications require prior authorization from your insurance company.  Depending on the medication and your insurance, this process may involve multiple steps and can take an extended period of time.  Our staff and providers are well versed in these processes and aggressively work with your insurer and pharmacy to assure the medication is approved as quickly as possible.  Neither the pharmacy or our provider can guarantee that your insurance will approve any medication.  Our staff will keep you updated throughout the prior authorization process.

  • It is important that you keep scheduled appointments and obtain necessary prescribed testing (lab work, radiology and other testing referrals) to ensure you receive timely refills.  Failure to have up-to-date clinical visits and testing may result in the denial of your refill.  In general, prescriptions require follow up appointments and lab testing every 3 – 6 months.

Questions regarding medications should be discussed during your appointment.

If, however you feel your medication needs to be adjusted or changed, please contact the office.
